Vertex PRG CT42A Read Me First This package contains software to program all Vertex radios that use the CT-42A main programming cable. This includes many of the newer portables. The CT-42A is a TWO PIECE cable assembly. Use of the pigtail extension is required for all Vertex radios. The main cable alone, even though it will physically mate with the jack on the radio, will not support programming. Some other Vertex portables use the VX VPL-1 cable set. Software for these other portables is NOT included in this package. Likewise, software for Standard radio products is also NOT included in this package. All software is contained within the file named ct42a.exe on this disk. Double-click this icon, or run it via the Windows "Run" command, to begin the installation process. Click on the "Unzip" button to unzip and install all files. By default, the install program will create a directory at C:\Vertex and will install all files to this directory. Don't click on the "Run WinZip" button! We recommend that you keep all this software in the directory named C:\Vertex for easiest updates when they become available. All of the software in this package uses the MS-DOS computer operating system. If you use the MS-Windows operating system, you should shut down Windows and restart the computer in the MS-DOS mode before running any of this software. Failure to shut down Windows is the most common cause of communications problems between the computer and the radio being programmed. Knowledge of basic MS-DOS commands is required. Each clone editor has it's own embedded Help file. Most questions can be answered, and most problems can be solved, by reading the information in the Help files. The following "clone editors" in this package program these Vertex radios using the listed cable adapters: RADIO MODEL CLONE EDITOR STARTUP COMMAND VX-10 ce14 VX-300 ce18 VX-400 ce24 VX-210 ce29 VX-160 / 180 ce44 Additionally, the following Alignment software is included for these computer-aligned models: VX-400 svc24 Be sure to read and understand the alignment instructions in the appropriate Service Manual before attempting alignment.
